Dr. Agnieszka Szplit, lecturer at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce (UJK), recently participated in the international conference entitled “Evidence-based approach in Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. From data to knowledge, from knowledge to practice“, organized by the National Agency of the Erasmus+ Program and the European Solidarity Corps, which brought together approximately 140 education specialists from 20 countries.

This event, which reached its 8th edition in 2024, was a unique opportunity to learn about the latest research results on education and mobility, exchange experiences in the field of methodology and best practices, and establish cooperation on future joint research projects. The discussion focused on how to combine the seemingly difficult-to-reconcile worlds of experts conducting research, practitioners dealing with education and decision-makers shaping public policy.

Dr. Agnieszka Szplit gave the lecture “Evidence-based practice in a digital teacher community- DigitalTA, the Erasmus+ Teacher Academy Project”, to discuss the results of the project.

During the course of the project, a study of the needs of novice teachers and possible supports to respond to them was carried out with the participation of 160 novice teachers from several countries.

Specifically, teachers in Poland face diverse challenges, such as difficulties in building relationships with students, parents, colleagues and managers; stereotypes in evaluation; lack of psychological knowledge; poor administrative skills; lack of teamwork activities; and unfavorable working conditions, such as low salaries, excessive hours and little funding for professional development.

These challenges translate into findings such as the need to work in a positive environment, the need for good work organization that includes the possibility of negotiation, the need for autonomy in the selection of curriculum and textbooks, the need to have a close friend or belong to a group, and the need for professional development.

During the session, the platform, which is currently in the testing phase, was presented to the attendees, showing them the different sections of the platform and encouraging them to participate in it. The Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce (UJK) will organize this week a pilot activity with its students to test the platform.
